The Poetry of Mars Expressed by Texas Students
Fort Worth, Texas

At Riverside Applied Learning Center in Fort Worth, Texas students participated in creative writing assignments, developed poems and took part in a number of challenging educational projects that results in students and teachers alike gaining a vast array of knowledge about Mars, space and exploration. Second and fourth grade students expressed what they learned by writing poems, such as:

Ode to Mars
By Allison Stapleton & Amy Thankham

Mars is cool; Mars is Great! Mars is bigger than our state.
Though it's rusty and ugly too, we love Mars oo -- oo -- oo!

A group of fourth grade students at the school, which is part of the Forth Worth Independent School District, created a space news team that wrote Mars news and broadcast space questions daily on the school morning announcements. The entire student body was invited to research the Mars question. If students answered correctly, they won a student designed Mars bookmark and a space prize.
